Insurance Repairs

The first thing to know about insurance repairs is to report your claim in a timely fashion. You also need to know that insurance only pays exactly what is damaged. So choose a contractor that is licensed, bonded, insured and does insurance claims. And never pay a contractor with personal funds except your deductible. If your contractor does insurance work they know the payment timeframe. Then make sure you establish open communication. It is vital you choose a contractor you can communicate with because 60% of the job is communication and only 40% is actually getting the work done. You must also make sure your contractor and adjuster have an agreed upon scope. Keep in mind that insurance repairs cannot be done as fast as a remodel. Remodels are planned and done proactively, while insurance repairs are reactive. Lastly, once the work is completed make sure you can get a copy of the building permit and notice of completion for your records.
